West

Dear West Families,

As we gear up for another wonderful school year, we want to share an important update and ask for your partnership in keeping our students safe.

Each day, many of our families rely on the crosswalk at Harvard Avenue to get their children to school. Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to secure a crossing guard for this location. We know this raises concerns, especially for families who aren't eligible for bus service and may not be able to drive their children themselves.

Here’s where we’re hoping the strength of our West community can shine. With a few weeks before school starts, we’re reaching out to see if there are community members —parents, grandparents, neighbors —who would be willing to volunteer their time to help ensure students can cross safely. Even a rotating schedule of volunteers could make a big difference.

We also encourage families who live nearby to consider teaming up by creating walking groups or “walking buddies,” which can help make the trip to school both safer and more fun.

And to those driving near our school, especially along Harvard Avenue: please slow down, stay alert, and help us protect our Spartans. Thanks to the City of Bixby, flashing lights have been installed in that area, and they are considering a 3-way stop to further improve safety.

Getting our students to and from school safely is a team effort—and we are grateful for your continued support. If you're interested in helping with the crosswalk or have ideas for neighborhood solutions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

With Gratitude,

Libby McNamara, Elementary Principal
