Bixby Public Schools again offering summer feeding program, nourishing kids during the summer months
After a very successful 2018 program, Bixby Public Schools will again sponsor the Summer Meal Program for 2019, which is created to provide free, nutritious meals during the summer months, to children age 18 and younger living in the Bixby school district. The Bixby New 9th Grade Cafeteria will be serving lunch and the Central Elementary will be serving breakfast and lunch from June 4 through June 27. Both sites will be closed on Fridays.
Our Child Nutrition Department is excited to serve our district’s families again this summer. We look forward to providing, not only for those children who may not always have a full meal on a regular basis during the summer months, but ALL children of the district and their siblings. The summer meal program also provides a place for our students attending summer school, as well as those participating in extra-curricular activities, a nutritious, convenient meal.
The Summer Food Service Program, hosted by the USDA, ensures up to two free meals per day, breakfast and/or lunch, Monday through Friday. It is open to ANY child living in the Bixby school district, regardless of school meal eligibility status. Children must eat their meals at the serving location, no carry-outs are allowed.
Transportation to and from the feeding program is not provided, but students across the district are welcome to come to the feeding sites and eat at no cost. “Our staff looks forward to serving the children of our district throughout the summer. We hope to have a great turnout each day,”
