Bixby Public Schools strongly supports alternative education, also known as non-traditional education or educational alternative that approaches teaching and learning differently than the mainstream educational process. The district offers several different opportunities to meet the needs of its students who are in need of non-traditional educational approaches and are best served in an alternative delivery manner. While the programs offered will vary in design the goals and expectations are alike. Our focus is on meeting the educational needs of our students and assisting them to succeed in life.

The “Alternative Program” is non-punitive with the flexibility of direct classroom and computerized instruction to assist students who are at-risk of dropping out of school, in need of significant credit recovery or other extenuating circumstances. Students must apply and meet at risk criteria for available openings.

The “Alternative Placement Program” is for students who have special needs and in need of an alternative method of delivery.

The “Crossroads Program” is for students who the traditional and non traditional placement does not serve their needs.

Enrolled students must meet district requirements for graduation credits as well as other district and program policies, such as attendance, behavior and discipline.

If you have any questions or would like further information about any of the listed programs, please feel free to contact Daniel Deitz, Director of Alternative Education, Bixby Public Schools.
