Traffic Procedures and Parent Orientation Night

Hello CI Families! This is Principal Brenda Shaw. This message is in reference to several items. First, as you’ve noticed, our morning drop off procedure changed slightly. As a result of this change, along with our increase in enrollment, we have had a pretty serious backlog of traffic in the morning. In order to alleviate this, we need your help. First, please enter the gravel road from the east side coming from Mingo. Please do not come down 161st street from Riverview or Memorial to enter the line. Doing so keeps our neighbors from having access to their houses, and it blocks entry for the buses getting into the bus loop to drop students off for the day.

When you’ve entered through the gravel road, please pull all the way around the parking lot loop and drop your child off at the furthest point, up by the fire hydrant. Tomorrow, we will have cones outside indicating drop off points. Once out of the car, the students can walk around the sidewalk into the gym doors. Please have them ready for drop off when you get into the parking lot to keep the line moving. If students are dropped off at 8:40 or after, they should go in through the office doors rather than the gym doors in order to get a tardy slip. Please never drop your student off or pick them up in the bus loop. This can be dangerous and it blocks our buses from getting in and out quickly.

For those who walk to school, we will have a crossing guard in place tomorrow morning beginning at 8:20. Please do not have students cross without the crossing guard because the increase in traffic has made that area very dangerous. The same crossing guard, Mr. Orrison, will be in place in the afternoon as well to help students as they leave for the day.

Finally, in the afternoon, please make sure you enter into the car rider line from Mingo onto the gravel drive. Once you get to the pavement from the gravel, we ask that you form two lanes and pull up to the designated area that is marked by cones. This will again alleviate traffic on 161st Street. By working together, we can definitely expedite our loading and unloading portions of the day. Once we learn your cars, we will get the line moving even quicker, so please help us by keeping the sign with your child’s first and last name clearly printed in your window so we can get them quickly loaded.

We have had an awesome start of the school year. We are bigger than we’ve been, so we are experiencing a few growing pains, so we truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these procedures. Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 4th from 6-7 pm as that is Parent Orientation Night. We hope you’ll join us. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office. And remember, it is ALWAYS a GREAT day to be a SPARTAN!!
