The guidance and
counseling program at North Elementary provides a quality education opportunity
for all students. There are three main components to our counseling
program: individual counseling, small group counseling, and classroom
guidance.
The school counselor meets with individuals and small groups
to address various topics, such as divorce, grief, making friends and
maintaining friendships, study skills, and improved social interaction. Students can refer themselves or may be
referred by their parents, teachers, or other staff members.
The classroom
guidance component allows the counselor to meet with each class as a whole on a monthly
basis.
Classroom lessons address age appropriate, targeted areas of student
development, supported by activities in which everyone participates.
Topics may include bullying, showing tolerance and respect to others, the
dangers of using drugs, and how to interact appropriately with peers and adults.
Additionally, the
school counselor works with parents, teachers, and administrators to support our
students in any needed capacity.
The school counselor is a professionally trained specialist with a
strong background in the behavioral sciences and human relations.
