We are asking our school community voters to continue Bixby's progress by "Building the Future" with our April 6, 2010 Bond Election. As part of our long-range capital improvement plan and our Comprehensive Local Education Plan (CLEP), we are seeking capital improvements in our school district in the form of two propositions, one for construction and equipment and the other for student transportation. The April 6th Bond Election will make available the necessary funding needed for the Bixby school community to invest in our school children and the future prosperity of our community.
LARGE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS INCLUDE:
WE ARE A GROWING SCHOOL DISTRICT: We have experienced a growth rate of over three percent each year since 2003. Using historical data, along with growth projections, we know we must provide for not only our immediate student needs but also our vital future needs. Our current enrollment is 4,786 students. Over the next seven school years, we are projected to grow to an enrollment that exceeds 6,000 students. We simply do not have the classroom or school space for 6,000 students.
WHERE WILL THE BOND PROCEEDS BE SPENT? All school sites (Central, North 4th, 5th, & 6th, Brassfield, North Elementary, Bixby Middle School, and Bixby High School) will benefit from the bond issue and the benefit will come in a variety of ways. The most pressing benefit for all of our schools will come in the form of adding classroom space to the District. Increased classroom space at our existing schools will be created with the addition of new schools and renovated areas. Similarly, all school sites will benefit in technology, equipment and furniture purchases.

Transportation Bond proceeds will be used to purchase and expand the transportation fleet. In particular, new school buses are needed in order to meet the demand for the increase in number of bus riders.
WHAT WILL OUR INVESTMENT BE? General obligation bonds in the amount of $60,000,000 for construction and equipment and $2,000,000 for transportation will be issued after the passage of the bond election. The bond issue will NOT raise your property taxes. It will maintain the current property millage tax rate that you have now, approximately 26 mills, and this is well below the 30 plus millage rate in surrounding school districts. |
