The Bixby Board of Education has a new member. Julie Prox was sworn in as Board Member Feb. 19 taking the seat of Bryan Wiesman, whose seat expired this year. The Board also voted on new positions electing Ron Schnare as President, Lisa Owens as Vice President, Wendell Nolan as Clerk and past president, Lisa Kramer, as Member.
Prox ran unopposed in the February election. She and her husband, Mark Prox, moved to Bixby from their home state of Iowa in 2000. In Iowa, Prox was the Education Director at a Women’s Health Clinic for 10 yrs. She is currently a stay-at-home mom to her 2 kids that attend Bixby Public Schools. Prox is active in the Parent Teacher Association (PTA)/Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) most recently helping establish the Bixby North Elementary and Intermediate PTA (now PTO) Board when that school opened in 2013. There she served as Vice President and is the current President.
Prox said, “I have always enjoyed being involved at my children’s school, and getting to know the staff, and the other great families that attend Bixby Public Schools. It is an exciting time to be a part of this district. I am truly looking forward to serving on the Board of Education over the next 5 years and witnessing Bixby’s growth and progress.”
The Bixby Board of Education holds regular monthly meetings, open to the public, on the second Monday of the month unless indicated otherwise on the meeting schedule that can be found on the Bixby Public School website. Meetings start at 6:00 p.m. in the Bixby Public School Administration Building at 109 North Armstrong in downtown Bixby.
