Coach Bio's

Head Coach Tina Thomas is entering her second season as the head basketball coach and math/science teacher at Bixby Learning Center. Prior to Bixby, she served as the head basketball coach at Sapulpa High School for 4 years. At Sapulpa, she led the Lady Chieftains to one state championship, two state runner-up titles, 4 regional titles and coached 3 all-state players. She had a record of 88-12 at Sapulpa.  Coach Thomas graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in Ivanhoe, TX where she was the point guard on the basketball team for four years. She played basketball at Murray State Junior College for two years. She earned a master’s degree at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant Ok. She and husband Sam have been married for 25 years and have four children – Jessica, 22; Shelby, 21; Zach, 17; and Will, 16.

Coach Rachel Block is entering her first year of coaching Lady Spartans Basketball. Rachel played for Booker T Washington High School in Tulsa where she won state in 2013. After that she went to Seminole State College where she played two years before transferring to Rogers State University, a DII school, to continue her basketball career. She left RSU being ranked top 10 in several categories. Rachel is currently finishing up her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology while working for Bixby Public Schools. With little coaching experience Rachel is eager to learn from Coach Thomas and help the Lady Spartans have a successful season!

Coach Shannon Hoffmann is a 1991 graduate of Bixby High School.  She earned her Bachelors degree from Northeastern State University. She is the current Freshman basketball coach and in previous years has also coached softball, track and cross country.   Coach Hoffmann has been married to her husband, Nick, for 19 years. They have 2 sons, Nick age 14, and Brody age 8.

Coach Mandy Nightingale Burn enters her first year of coaching with the Lady Spartans. Mandy played for Coach Thomas during their years at Sapulpa High School winning 3 Conference Championships, State Runner-Up finishes in 1996 and 1997, and the Class 6A State Championship in 1998. Coach Mandy went on to play Division I basketball for the University of Colorado from 1998-2002.  She led her team to two Elite 8 finishes and was drafted to the WNBA in the 3rdround. After her time in Colorado, Mandy earned her Master’s Degree in School Counseling from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. During her time there, she was the captain of the waterski team and led them to 2 National Championships. She is also a 2 time World Womens trick champion. Mandy has been a Head Varsity Coach at Coweta High School and Jenks High School. She is married to her husband, Nick and is currently a Guidance Counselor at Jenks High School. She devotes most of her free time to competing in crossfit competitions.

Coach Betty Carter moved to Bixby this year to join her husband on the Bixby coaching staff after serving as athletic director and coach at Allen Bowden Public Schools for three years. Her coaching career includes many years as a high school assistant and junior high coach in girls’ basketball, cross country and track. She was also head girls basketball and tennis coach at Victory Christian. In high school Betty Carter played on two state runner-up basketball teams and was named to the All-Tournament team at the State Tournament and the girls basketball Tournament of Champions. In college, she played basketball and tennis at USAO in Chickasha
