Head Coach Tina Thomas is entering her second season as the head basketball coach and math/science teacher at Bixby Learning Center. Prior to Bixby, she served as the head basketball coach at Sapulpa High School for 4 years. At Sapulpa, she led the Lady Chieftains to one state championship, two state runner-up titles, 4 regional titles and coached 3 all-state players. She had a record of 88-12 at Sapulpa. Coach Thomas graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in Ivanhoe, TX where she was the point guard on the basketball team for four years. She played basketball at Murray State Junior College for two years. She earned a master’s degree at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant Ok. She and husband Sam have been married for 25 years and have four children – Jessica, 22; Shelby, 21; Zach, 17; and Will, 16.
Kara Faulk Wernli enters her second year of coaching Lady Spartans Basketball having coached the 8th grade girls a season ago. Coach Thomas is very familiar with having Kara on her bench but this will be their first season together in a coaching role. Kara played for Coach Thomas during their years at Sapulpa High School winning 3 Conference Championships, State Runner-Up finishes in 1996 and 1997, and the Class 6A State Championship in 1998. Coach Wernli went on to play Division I basketball for the Oklahoma State Cowgirls from 1998-2002. Her production as a Cowgirl earned her All Big 12 player recognition and she is esteemed in several of OSU's Top 20 categories. After her time at OSU, Kara earned her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Oklahoma and is a licensed and practicing physical therapist. Kara is married to her husband, Mike, of 14 years. They have 3 children. Gracy, 11 and Kate, 8 are both Bixby students. Luke is 4. Kara devotes most of her time to coaching and supporting her kids’ sports and activities.
Coach Hoffmann is a 1991 graduate of Bixby High School. She earned her Bachelors degree from Northeastern State University. She is the current Freshman basketball coach and in previous years has also coached softball, track and cross country. Coach Hoffmann has been married to her husband, Nick, for 19 years. They have 2 sons, Nick age 14, and Brody age 8.
Coach Alison Clark is in her first year of coaching with the Lady Spartans. She is the proud wife of 7 years to HS teacher and Varsity Football Coach Brad Clark, whom she has three wonderful kids with, Cooper (6), Ella (4) and Hudson (2). Coach Clark is a stay-at-home mom and is excited about this new adventure. She played at and graduated from Metro Christian Academy, in Tulsa before attending the University of Oklahoma. Although, this is her first year to coach she has an excitement and passion for the game that she is eager to pass on. Go Spartans!
Betty Carter moved to Bixby this year to join her husband on the Bixby coaching staff after serving as athletic director and coach at Allen Bowden Public Schools for three years. Her coaching career includes many years as a high school assistant and junior high coach in girls’ basketball, cross country and track. She was also head girls basketball and tennis coach at Victory Christian. In high school Betty Carter played on two state runner-up basketball teams and was named to the All-Tournament team at the State Tournament and the girls basketball Tournament of Champions.
