First grade got to participate in the OSU Master Gardeners program Worms to the Wise. It was SO fun! The students got to measure worms and “play” with worms. The worms crawled on their arms and around their hands. They took flashlights and were able to see what the inside of the worms looked like. Some of the worms even tried to escape!
The students learned new vocabulary like clitellum, setae, and intestine. They learned that worms like the dark, they need to be wet to live, and that they don’t have teeth or eyes. They learned that they use vibrations to know what is happening around them. They learned how helpful worms are to the soil and to plants. It was such a fun experience for the students!
